Rev. Craig Steven Fleming, Sr., known affectionately as "Doc" and "Flem," was born on August 10, 1967, to Bessie and Earnest Fleming, Sr. in New Orleans, Louisiana. He transitioned to eternity with his Lord and Savior on March 22, 2024, in Dallas, Texas.
In 1985, Craig graduated from Grace King High School in Metairie, Louisiana. He began higher education at Grambling University and he later studied at American Baptist College in Nashville, Tennessee, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical Studies in 1995. After earning his BA, he continued his studies at Dallas Theological Seminary.
On July 29, 1995, Craig married the love of his life, Tamira Latrice Currie. To their union, three children were loved and nurtured in the admonition of the Lord. The two remained united in holy matrimony until his transition.
Craig served his tenure as Senior Pastor at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Cecil, Alabama for 5 1/2 years. He also served as an associate minister at various churches, including Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church in Garland, Texas, and touched the lives of many through his charismatic and compassionate leadership. Throughout his life, Craig was steadfast in his faith. His unwavering trust in God guided him through every endeavor, including his tenure as an Associate Minister at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, Mayfield Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas, Nineveh Baptist Church in Metairie, Louisiana, Harvey Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas, St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, Concord Church in Dallas, Texas, Mount Zion Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee, and Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Austin, Texas.
Beyond his professional and religious efforts, Craig found joy in various interests and hobbies. He was an avid enthusiast of computer technology, sports (especially football and basketball), movies, music, and the study of the Bible. His infectious jubilance and caring nature endeared him to all who knew him.
Craig was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charlie and Ida Powell, and his mother, Bessie Fleming. Those left to cherish precious and lasting memories include his devoted wife, Dr. Tamira Fleming; his children - Craig Fleming, Jr., Jirah Fleming, and Mariah Fleming; his father, Earnest Fleming, Sr.; his siblings - Vanessa Boston (Tony), Katrina Evans (Roderick Sr.), Tiffany Fleming, and Earnest Fleming, Jr. (Cabrina); his parents-in-law, Donald and Ollie Currie; his brother-in-law, Donald Wayne Currie, Jr.; and his extended family, including cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and countless friends. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
